FOUNDARY
PIG IRON
Foundry-Grade Pig Iron for Export Markets
Product Overview
The project is being developed to supply export-quality foundry-grade pig iron produced from a vertically integrated iron ore operation in Zimbabwe.
The smelting facility is designed to deliver consistent chemistry, low residuals, and predictable melting performance suitable for international grey and ductile iron foundries.
The operation is purpose-built for merchant pig iron supply rather than captive steelmaking feed, with quality control systems aligned to export customer requirements.
Target Chemical Specification (Typical Export Ranges)
|
Element |
Target Range |
|
Carbon (C) |
3.8 – 4.3 % |
|
Silicon (Si) |
1.0 – 2.0 % |
|
Manganese (Mn) |
0.30 – 0.80 % |

Chemistry flexibility: Final specifications can be adjusted within operating limits to meet customer-specific requirements, subject to contract agreement.
Physical Characteristics
- Pig weight: 10–15 kg
- Pig form: Standard export foundry pig
- Surface condition: Clean, minimal slag adhesion
- Handling: Suitable for bulk, containerised, or break-bulk loading
Intended Applications
- Grey iron foundries
- Ductile (SG) iron foundries
- General engineering castings
- Automotive and industrial components
The product is designed for direct foundry furnace charging, minimizing downstream chemistry correction.
Quality Control & Consistency
Consistency is supported through:
- Single-deposit iron ore sourcing under project control
- Defined ore sizing and burden preparation
- Stable smelting practice and controlled reductant usage
- Routine chemical analysis and batch documentation
- Slag chemistry management to reduce inclusions
Vertical integration allows tighter variability control than third-party ore-dependent producers.
Export Supply Philosophy
- Production designed to support long-term export contracts
- Initial volumes aligned with commissioning and ramp-up stability
- Priority given to repeat buyers and contractual customers
- Supply growth paced to maintain quality and delivery reliability
All quoted volumes reflect design intent for a greenfield project.
Logistics & Delivery
- Supply form: Pig iron
- Packaging: Bulk or containerised
- Export routes: Regional ports via established logistics corridors
- Typical Incoterms: FOB / CFR / CIF (subject to agreement)
Documentation includes:
Certificate of Analysis, Commercial Invoice & Packing List, Certificate of Origin
Commercial & Technical Engagement
Early engagement is welcomed regarding:
- Chemistry windows and tolerances
- Packaging and shipping preferences
- Trial shipment planning
- Medium- and long-term offtake agreements
